I love the idea of sending report cards, but I've never made one yet. Miss 17 will get her first one this year, for grade 11. LOL

I own HS Tracker Plus, but it was just too much work for me to manage with 5 kids; perhaps now that I'm not so terribly tired anymore I could do it, but I'm happy with what we're doing now. I'm glad it works for you.

Congratulations on overcoming the opposition by recording marks. :) That must make life a lot easier for you.

Really admirable post. Theoretically I could write something like this too, but taking the time and effort to make a good article is a lot of effort...but what can I say....I'm a procrastinater. Good read though.

You know what's funny? I just read everyone elses take on the grade question, and I can see every single person's point of view. LOL!

I guess I should say that I DO make my son go back and correct his mistakes. But I only give half credit for corrected work. If he misses it again, then no credit is given. But he still has to find the correct answer.

Just this past week, my son totally bombed a test in math. So, I discarded the grade, as I feel is my prerogative. However, he will take this test again after we spend the next two weeks really going over the material again. He obviously didn't understand it.

I love that about homeschooling! In the public school system, he would just be passed on to the next material. Unfortunately, many times that decision affects all future grades as the student needs to understand the other part first, and use it as a foundation.

My sister-in-law, the professional teacher, says I am a tough teacher. ;) I like to think it is just because I love my student so much. :)

I so loved reading this! I love that you send him his report card in the mail - my boys would love that. *Ü*

I can see how it makes it all seem real and valid too. I felt like that as I was working on a grade for Jordan's math and science. I'm not sure how to grade other subject yet, but it will be fun exploring how.

Oh, and I can see how it would make them work harder for that grade!
Good point!
